FLYVOLT achieves Transport Canada UAV battery certification

FLYVOLT has received formal acknowledgement from Transport Canada that the FV-88K-8S Survey Pack meets the documentation requirements for operations under SFOC (Special Flight Operations Certificate) in the advanced category. The acknowledgement, received following a documentation review submitted in Q3 2025, confirms that the pack’s UN 38.3 test summary, MSDS, and dangerous-goods packaging documentation satisfy TC’s requirements for remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) battery documentation in the advanced category.

What this means for operators

Operators applying for an SFOC for advanced-category operations who are using the FV-88K-8S as their primary power source can reference FLYVOLT’s TC acknowledgement letter in their documentation package. The letter confirms compliance with the battery documentation requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part IX as they apply to advanced RPAS operations.

This does not constitute type approval of the battery or the aircraft. SFOC applications still require the full operator documentation package, including the safety case, operational procedures, and pilot qualification records. The TC acknowledgement addresses specifically the battery documentation component of the application.

Background

Transport Canada’s advanced category RPAS regulations, which came into full effect in June 2019 and have been progressively refined since, require operators to document the power source used in their RPAS, including compliance with dangerous-goods transportation requirements. The specific documentation requirements have been a source of uncertainty for operators, as TC’s guidance material has evolved faster than the formal regulatory text.

FLYVOLT submitted a documentation package to TC in Q2 2025 seeking clarity on whether our standard documentation set — UN 38.3 test summary, MSDS, DG packaging compliance statement — satisfied the CARs requirement. The Q3 2025 acknowledgement confirms that it does, at least for the FV-88K-8S configuration reviewed.

Next steps

FLYVOLT will submit documentation packages for the FV-24K-4S and FV-44K-6S configurations in Q1 2026. Operators requiring TC documentation acknowledgement for other FLYVOLT configurations should contact our engineering team to discuss the documentation review timeline.
